Makeup Hacks to Fake Flawless, Glowing Skin

Updated: Apr 21, 2020

Every day, we spend a lot of time on our makeup routine. Our goal is to have a fresh, healthy glow that will last throughout the day. Many people, at the end of the day, forget to pay as much attention to their skincare, but this part of the routine is just as important. Fortunately, just a few steps are all that is needed to leave you with healthy skin that helps you fake a flawless and glowing base. Napoleon Perdis Makeup Artist, Kiera Taylor, gives her best advice below.

Step 1: Primer

Before applying your foundation, you want to use a primer. Primer is used to create a smooth surface on your face before adding makeup. It can also be used just on its own for a healthy glow or to create the appearance of a smooth surface. Primer helps to reduce the appearance of pores, fine lines and other blemishes and it can help to even out skin tone.

Step 2: Foundation and Concealer

After finding your desired foundation, grab your sponge and damp it with water, then dab a few drops of foundation over the main points of your face including the forehead, cheeks, and chin with your finger. Next, with stippling motions (not dragging or rubbing motions) quickly tap the sponge over the dots, blending the foundation out towards your hairline and jaw to diffuse the colour. Keep tapping under your chin and jaw to seamlessly blend the foundation's edges. Brush bristles tend to leave little streaks and lines on your face, and your fingers and hands are unable to buff, blend, or distribute foundation in a way that looks natural.

Concealer: Take your concealer and apply it to blemishes or dark circles to hide them and blend slightly. It is better to apply it in striped shapes with a sharp and thin brush and blend it with finger movement.

Step 3: Translucent Power

To set your face, use a translucent powder and press it into your skin while your foundation is still wet. You should press powder onto your skin with a flat-shaped brush or powder puff. Pressing the powder on will prevent the foundation from moving around or streaking in the process. It also allows the foundation to set better so it stays on all day. If you're wanting to add finishing touches to your base for a warm bronzed finish, you can contour. Using powders to contour will result in a more matte finish. If you use creams, the result will be dewier. Contouring your cheek bones, forehead and nose will give the illusion of a slimmer face. To do this, use a damp sponge to blend out cream contour. Sweep your blush from the ear down the cheekbone towards the mouth. Add a little touch of blush to the chin and blend it well to make your face appear longer.
